Since1999, IAN has connected many hundreds of children around the world with their American families through ethical, transparent, and exceptional intercountry adoption practices.
We specialize exclusively in Bulgaria, Colombia and India, and bring a deep understanding of their requirements, nuances, cultural expectations, and adoption authorities (ICBF, CARA, and Bulgaria’s Ministry of Justice).
We welcome single male and female applicants, older parents, and those with diverse religious or cultural backgrounds. For the Colombia program we are able to assist LGBTQ+ families with their adoption in Colombia. IAN is not a faith-based agency, and we welcome all applicants to apply. We are deeply committed to ethical practices under the Hague Convention and each child’s best interests.
Our adoption coordinators are known for compassion, clear communication, expertise in our programs, and knowledgeable guidance through every step—from your first inquiry through travel and post-adoption. Our coordinators lay out a step-by-step plan for each adoption and work closely with families to stay on top of expiration dates, updates and any changes to the adoption process in the US or foreign countries.

Work with a trusted local agency; we’ll coordinate closely with them to ensure the home study is fully compliant with state, federal and foreign requirements.
IAN assists with all US federal filings such as USCIS I800a, I800a, Article5, etc to secure your approval to adopt.
We provide guidance and support on how to properly prepare an adoption dossier then IAN will register it in Bulgaria, Colombia or India, along with any necessary translations.
You’ll be matched with a child by in-country authorities based on the child preferences outlined in the home study for which you are approved, and in the best interest of the child and their needs or a specific child for heritage adoptions. IAN will guide you during the review and acceptance of the referral including pre-adoption child specific education which covers the child’s known history, any special needs, and how to best prepare for your child’s homecoming and meet their needs after adoption.
Travel requirements are based on the requirements of each country. Our team in the US and in each country helps with logistics, bonding support for when you meet your child, and provides or supports the necessary legal steps, and after adoption finalization assists with the appointments and processes for the child to receive their US immigrant visa.
We provide resources to adoptive parents after coming home to help wrap up the final US processes for your child. This includes validation or re-adopt the child in [STATE], a state birth certificate, application for social security card.
One critically important part of your adoption happens once your child arrives home. Each country has their own post adoption requirements which we will notify you about and reminders of due dates and processes. In addition we continue to provide support for your family during the transition and postadoption process. Post adoption services and reports will be completed by your home study agency and IAN will facilitate the sending to the central authority in the country of adoption.
