Uganda Adoption Program

Uganda is not party to the Hague Convention.

Please note that on June 2nd of 2016, new regulations for Ugandan adoptions went into effect. The main changes for US families desiring to adopt from Uganda is that there is now a required fostering period of a year in order to adopt a child from Uganda as a non-Ugandan citizen. US families may no longer adopt through a guardianship order.

We will update this page as we have more information, but at this time, Uganda is no longer an option unless a family is able to move to Uganda for an extended time.

For the full text of the new regulations, please visit the Ministry's page here.

For more information from the State Department on this matter, please check here and here.
