Bulgaria’s capitol is Sofia, which is located on the western side of the country. A little over 1.2 million people currently reside in Sofia.
Flag
Bulgaria’s flag consists of three horizontal bands of equal size. The green band in the flag represents freedom and replaced an earlier blue color.

The population of Bulgaria is approximately 7 million people, which makes it the 100th most populated country in the world.
Geography
Bulgaria is strategically located near the Turkish Straits which allows it to control key land routes from Europe to the Middle East and Asia. The terrain consists of mostly mountains with lowlands in the north and southeast. The elevation of Bulgaria ranges from 0 ft. at the Black Sea to 9,600 ft. in Musala, the highest point in Bulgaria.
Climate
Bulgaria has a temperate climate. It tends to experience very hot and dry summers along with damp winters.
